I would love to attend this event.
Can you provide details about where you stayed overnight, where it starts, secret things you found out about the cruise, what you did last year before and after the event.
Basically any scoop and info would be helpful.

I forget where I stayed, but I'll look it up and post when it gets closer. It was off of woodward but not too far. The Cruise itself goes from 9 mile on the south end to a loop in pontiac on the north (16 miles away) Its 4 lanes each way for 16 miles and gets insanly packed.
People start cruising the road and hanging out days before the actual saturday event. On Sat itself there are carshows everywhere and you can just sit along woodward and watch the cruisers if your not one of them. Cruising is from about 6am-10pm. Various towns have party events after 10 and there are a bunch of bars on woodward as well as if you travel off all depending on what you want to do.
One of the carshows on Saturday is "Mustang Alley" So once they open registration if you want to be in that show you have to register http://www.motorcityterminators.org/ this site hosts it.

Thats a little about it, and what ive done when there

Well its a little ways out still but I always like to take care of some things early, so booked my room for woodward today :)

Oh and to Andy's question above, I stayed and am staying in Auburn Hills at the Crown Plaza

.... I stayed and am staying in Auburn Hills at the Crown Plaza
I used my Google Earth program and found the hotel.
I am wondering why you are staying at that location?
It's 3 miles away from the turnaround in Pontiac.
I would think you would want to stay at a hotel some where along Woodward between Pontiac and Detroit.
Maybe the closer you get to the cities the worse the urban environment is??? That's my guess.

This hotel is in a great location off of woodward, it takes about 5 minutes to get to the pontiac turnaround, or an alternate route takes the same time and puts you past it if you want to avoid the turnaround, very large parking lot as well, which is great for the quick wipedowns before cruising. This way if I want to avoid woodward ave and head somewhere else for any reason I can. If you stay at a hotel on woodward it literally takes 1-3 hours to get to a turn off on friday night and saturday. One of the bartenders at one bar told me the hotels on woodward double or triple rates during the cruise as well. Those are basically the reasons I stay away from the hotels very close, plus it is a pretty decent hotel IMO. If you do plan to stay at a place on woodward ave, there aren't to many of them and I'm sure they book fast if not already.

Hey Dan - am I reading that Mustang Alley registration right that you register on the website but don't pay until you get there?

And there's no registration fee for the WDC itself, right?

I'm leaning towards going, of course the eventual job situation will determine everything.

At one point it does say pre-pay, but I think thats left over from last years wording. They did want people to prepay last year but then it was pay at the event. So yea I'm almost positive it isn't pay til you get there.

And to go to the dream cruise and cruise the street, watch the cars, attent the shows on foot is all free. Just if you want to be in a carshow like mustang alley do you pay.

Yea this is my only out of state event that I attend, and it's well worth the drive. I think they had 400 mustangs in last years alley, and around 30,000 cars/1.5 million people overall attend the event. Although my numbers may be off.

Well just got this email today, debating if I should sign up or just do the normal stuff I had planned for friday instead

The Mustang Alley Team proudly announces the extension of the Mustang Alley Experience to include a track driving event on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Dearborn Development Center (formerly known as the Dearborn Proving Grounds)!

This event is offered at no cost to those of our guests who have registered for the Mustang Alley event on Saturday August 15 - however the track event is limited to 100 persons and/or 65 Mustangs, whichever comes first. Additional Registration Required

For those of you who register for this event in time, a conformation E mail will be sent to give you further information and directions for the event.

Requirements to participate
1. You must be registered for Mustang Alley to participate in this event
2. You must fill out an additional registration for this event (linked above and detailed below)
3. Participants must be at least 18 years of age
4. Closed toe shoes and long pants are required. Business casual would be preferred however nice jeans and shirts are OK. Please, no tank tops.
5. No cameras or cell phones with image capturing devices will be permitted. We will ask to inspect your cell phone and ask that you surrender any phones with cameras prior to the event (they will be returned post event). Photos will be taken by one of our photographers and available on-line.
6. A valid drivers license is required
7. A release of liability waiver will be required
8. All participating Mustangs will have to pass a safety inspection and have registration and proof of insurance on the vehicle prior to going to the track.

What is required from you?
We need to collect some information; Your name, year and model of Mustang (yes, mustangs only allowed for this event), if you will be bringing a guest (please note, a strict limit of 1 guest per registration, and no more then 2 people per Mustang will be allowed for this event), an E mail address and phone number where you can be reached. This information will be collected via the web link listed above. This information will be kept private and properly disposed of at the conclusion of the event. You will be asked at the time of the event to sign a release of liability waiver and your Mustang must pass a safety inspection.

What do you get in return?
We will provide to you directions to our "undisclosed location" where we will introduce you to the team, hold a safety inspection of your Mustang, and take care of the waivers. This will all get underway promptly at 8:00am on the morning of the 14th.

Following the formalities, you will then take your Mustang on a Police escorted cruise to the Dearborn Proving Grounds for a parade lap on the track and photos of you and your car on the track. We will then divide you into four groups, and the fun really begins!

GUIDED TRACK TOURS: Explore the grounds in our shuttle and see the some of the tests we run our vehicles through, including the straightaway, handling course, and world roads.

HOT LAPS with a professional driver: Each participant will have a chance to take the ride of their life with a professional Ford Motor Company driver through the steering and handling course. It will be the luck of the draw, but vehicles for this event could range from a mild Mustang Shelby to the wild 700 horsepower Ford GT... a ride to guarantee a smile on your face!

PRECISION DRIVING ON THE HANDLING COURSE: You as the driver get to take one of our cars through some of its paces on the back half of the steering and handling course. Accompanied by one of our professional drivers, we may even be able to give you some pointers.

LUNCH: While not quite as exciting as hot laps... everyone's got to eat, and we've got tons of food, so throughout the event we'll serve up lunch and beverages (did we mention this is all included, and its FREE?!) and give you a chance to explore some of the current products our company has available. From the green Hybrid Fusions to, 2010 Mustangs and Super Duties, we may even roll out some test properties and have a photo opportunity with the infamous Ford GT. Several of our product specialists will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

We'll close out the event and have you back in your cars and on your way around 4:00PM.

So are you ready to have the full Mustang Alley Experience? Click the link above and sign up!
This is it - the event you've all been waiting for. It's our Friday ride and drive!!!!

It's going to be split into two parts

Morning Track Event - Dearborn Proving Grounds
Limited space available - you will need to register for this event!
8:00-9:30 AM - Meet up at the Hyatt in Dearborn for an introduction, safety inspection and waiver
9:30-10:00 AM - Drive your car to the Dearborn Proving Grounds
10:00-12:00 PM - Parade Lap on the test track and photos
12:00-4:00 PM - Divide into 4 groups with 4 activities to rotate through:
1) Static review: see some of the latest models we have to offer (maybe even some test vehicles)
2) Tour of the Dearborn Proving Grounds: Explore the grounds in our shuttle and see the some of the tests we run our vehicles through, including the straightaway, handling course, and world roads.
3) Precision Driving on the Handling Course - Drive one of our vehicles through the twisties (we'll limit your speed).
4) Hot laps - Be driven on the handling course. You'll be taken on the ride of your life by one of our best drivers (you may have to limit their speed). Maybe you'll be in a 700 HP Ford GT or possibly a modified Shelby. It'll be the luck of the draw, but no matter what, you'll never forget this experience. Many Ford employees have never had this opportunity!
We'll provide you with lunch and get you back to your cars.
This is a no cost event.

Here are some of the rules
You'll need to be registered for Mustang Alley to register for this event
You will need to register for this event via website
No one under 18 can participate.
Long pants only; no shorts, no open toe shoes and no tank top are allowed.
You'll need a valid driver's license and will have to sign a waiver.
No cameras or cell phones will be allowed at the Dearborn Proving Grounds - photos will be available on-line.
We want to get as many people in as possibly, but we have limited capacity, so we're capping it off at 65 cars and no more than 2 people per car or 100 people total.

I missed out on this last year, but I promised myself I would go this year & here we are now. Wish there was more people going from the club, but oh well, maybe next time. I am excepting this to be one of or the best car show and cruise that I have ever been to yet. My mind is there already, but my body will be tomorrow.
