View Full Version : 96 gt hp help?
i owne a 96 mustang gt. so far all i have done is straght pip cats back(looking into new mid pips), 3.73 gears, and a cheep air filter off ebay. i know its not really that impresive but its a start. however i dont know what the best way to go is? should i look into cams? or focus more on the intake and exhaust. what works best with this car. its a daily driver and i usualy only put 100 miles a week on. 95% of them are stop and go 45 mph roads. any help would be appreciated.

Depends on your budget IMO. If you want to stay low cost the first things are things you've done like intake and exhaust. Also you didn't mention if you had a tune or not, that will help out. If you plan on doing cams or more then you want to wait on the tune since you'll have to re-do it probably
i am waiting on a tune till i get a few more mods. i would like to stay under 1000 for now. i work in a shop so labor isnt a problme.

Well, working in a shop essentually double your budget.
Did the 96's come with factory shorty headers? If not, that would be the last step (but long-tube headers exhale better) in the exhaust chain before going up in overall diameter.
You said cheep filter, is it in the stock closed airbox or is it an open element CAI type? Then there is the throttle body, heads, cams, tune and I'm sure someone makes a better upper intake manifold than the factory unit.

PI heads and intake would help and be the biggest improvement you can do right now

+1 on the PI swap. This is for sure what you want to do, this will give you a huge difference, anything else IMO should wait. It will feel like a whole new car.

Longtubes will be a waste of money on that N/A 2v. IMO I would only do longtubes if you do some kind of Forced Induction, or you completely run out of bolt ons to do, they won't help much on a n/a 2v, won't be worth the $$, definitely wouldn't be at the top of my list.
