Anyone kno the trick to passing emissions with no cats?

Well if you eliminate some of the o2 sensors and dont have a tune to eliminate the code you will fail, but from what I've heard as long as your tune is correct you should be fine, or you have to get the fake o2 sensors to plug in and fool it to think you have them.
I'm no expert so I could be wrong, but I think the o2 sensors are the only things that report to the computer regarding the cats and such

If you have a tuner or get your car tuned, usually they can disable them so they don't show and throw a CEL. Otherwise you need to get some O2 Simulators, although I have read that on the 05 and newer mustangs they may not work and a tune may be required, but I can't say for sure.

If you have a 99-04 heres an article I found to make your own for about 5 bucks each

with a preditor you can shut them off= no cel
the newer ones dont have that function
but all you do is download the older firmware and you are good to go...

welp i got the 05 mustang and a SCT 93 octance tune by brenspeed...and i failed with that...says catalytic converter eff. not ready, heated oxygen sensor not ready, and oxygen sensor not ready on the emissions test report...uggghh y does emissions have to b so difficult...:100:

Call Brent at Brenspeed. If there is a way to do it, he'll know how.

TJ don't panic everything will be OK. Once you get the right tune you'll pass no prob. Keep us posted.

Emailed Brenspeed for the tune..he said i was supposed to specify i needed to pass emissions...so hopefully this all works out!

Well hopefully I will have no problems with my tune, I have bamachips though, and I do have cats etc, so I'm assuming he didn't do anything with my o2 sensors since I didn't do any exhaust mods.

uggghh...welp bad news now...he emailed me back sayin its impossible to pass emissions with a catless exhaust system...he said i have to purchase a high flow cat system...grrrr :wall:

Well that sucks, good thing I didn't get headers, although when I was thinking about it at one time I was gonna get hi flow cats just to be safe.

got a second opinion from Bob Kurgan and he said brenspeed is correct...so that sucks big time! grrr...anyone kno if theres a big power difference from the catted to non catted?

Going back to a set of stock cats would probably suck the life out of your ride (at least from what I hear as my Mustang still has stock exhaust axle forward) but the high-flow cats should not be too bad.

Or you can figure out a way to temporarily swap in the cheaper stock cats just for the "test".

I knew a guy with a Li'l Red Wagon a while back who kept a stock type exhaust on the wall in his garage for emmissions tests

Well, removing the cats is not going to have much of an impact power wise on an N/A car. I know when I added my Prochamber, no cats, It added 14/14 RWHP and RWTQ.

Now, if Kurgan says you need cats to pass, then it must be true. I've always been told by tuners, they can turn the 02 Sensors on, to fool the emissions testing equipment, so you pass.

As far as a system, what kind of mid-pipe do you have? Also, what year mustang? I might be able to help you out, I have a stock Mid-pipe, you can borrow(I'll help install it too) since down the road, I may need it. So, let me know Teege!

welp kurgan said its possible he just shys away from it for some reason...

im running the Pypes off road X right now but i still have my stock H in the garage..im just worried that if i put my stock H back on and then switch my tune back to stock its gonna run like crap cuz i have an aftermarket CAI..and also dont have the tools to change it back over...

I have the tools to work with changing the pipe. I don't have a jack just yet.

Your aftermarket CAI does not require a tune, so reverting back to your stock tune after switching your mid-pipe, won't make your car run like ****. If it does, there is something wrong. You will be fine.

Actually all but the Ford and K&N aftermarket intakes do require a tune on the 05+ without one you will get a CEL

my BBK is suppose to be able to use the stock tune too, but S197 intake also changes the size of the maf so the stock tune doesn't always work

Trouble, have you talk to the guys a BamaChips.com?

Odd enough a lot of people I have talked to, that have various intakes, JLT, K&N, BBK, FRPP, etc. have not needed a tune. However, a tune will make the intake more beneficial to the GT.

That is the common thing I have seen. It is a basic bolt on part. Even with the MAF, on an N/A vehicle, going over the stock volt ratings for the MAF won't cause anything bad, and with just an intake, it won't go over the stock limits.

Now, on an S/C car, that is totally different. Because too much air is being crammed in the engine, and it will lean the motor out when you go over the limit.

These words are straight from Kurgan.

I know the JLT and C&L need a tune and these are 2 of the more popular ones. the K&N FRPP, and maybe BBK don't
