So I have noticed a noise recently. God forbid my baby have a chink in her armor.
I have noticed a wining or sshhhhing noise for 1-2 seconds at I am turning the key for ignition. But it starts and runs fine. If shut it off and try again, it doesn't seem to do it again. But if I drive a bit, then park and come back to the car, seems to do it again.
Any ideas what it might be? I'm thinking starter, but I thought those just "went" - no dying period. Just shying away from driving now until I figure this out.

Sounds like a starter issue to me.
Starters don't just go. Most will die out over time.

Anyone, could a bad fuel injector do this? I always associated clicking when a starter was going. The only reason I mention the fuel injector, when I had my 03 the number 8 injector died one morning. I never noticed any signs of trouble before it happened tho.... just thinking. Hope you find out soon. Hate it when things go bad especially before our Winter deadline, no one wants to deal with this and snow

Fuel injector will not cause the symptoms Doug is explaining. If you have a bad injector or two, it will misfire. The symptoms will be uneven idle followed by a check engine light. A bad starter will not give you a check engine light.
Ford injectors are very reliable. I've not changed many of them. The coils are pretty reliable too, but that would often fail before the injectors do.

Well, she's put away for the season so the mystery will have to wait until next spring. However, when I pulled the battery, I noticed a crack by the negative terminal. Maybe that could have been causing an issue as well, maybe not holding a charge. At least I have 5 months to find a good sale for a replacement Motorcraft.
I never associated clicking with bad injectors, only with a bad battery or alternator.

My car does the same thing after I got it supercharged, in mine it's the fuel pumps "loading up". Don't know if that helps?
