I do love driving it! It only comes out when it is dry out currently though.

Actually the interior is Black and Scarlet Plastics and cracked white leather. The seats were the only real weak part of the car when I bought it. I got a steal on some Corbeau Seats to replace the front and I am gonna take it in after my T-5 Swap and have all the seats done over in black seats with Black with scarlet dash etc.

Thanks! I love it I can't wait to drive it once again. Will winter ever end? I took it up and down my street a couple times the other day I can't wait to take it to the track this spring and see what it can do. I also would like it to warm up so I could change out my injectors, MAF sensor and take it to go get it tuned.

Thanks! I actually just put on some hood pins this past weekend. I have heard horror stories from friends who had the same hood in the past and it popped open on them.
I did change out the Injectors to 24lbs and put in the Mass Air Sensor and all the issues I had went away. It's running great...With that said if I could get some more warm days my T5 Swap will begin. I have everything just sitting in the garage waiting. I wish we could have a nice weekend sometime soon.

Here are some pics from last week in front of my house but right before I took it for a spin after the injector swap.

Well I finished my AOD to 5 speed swap this weekend.

It actually went pretty well and everything seems OK after the first 30 miles of driving. I have a few things to tweak but nothing major. I put a new Exhaust system on from the Shorties back and I am not completely pleased with my install job I need to get the pass. side to come down a little lower so it matches the drivers side a little better. I have also had a sometimes squeaky Power Steering Pump that seems to have gotten a little more consistent with its squeaking its pretty much all the time now that I will change out this week.

All I have to say is bring on the 80's later this week I am ready to roll.

Thanks!

Sadly it was not my power steering pump as I put a new one on yesterday and it is still doing it. I think its my Water Pump. It's hard to tell as they are right next to one another and I figured the Waterpump is only 6 months old with 400-500 miles on it. This pump has been nothing but trouble since day one. Ford Assembled it with the wrong gaskets so it leaked right from the start. Latemodel credited me the money for the new gaskets I bought in November locally now I will see what Latemodel Resto is gonna do for me. I called the Sales Manager directly as he is who I dealt with last November with this issue so hopefully they will just refund my cash for that pump and I will go to Autozone to get my new one.

I hate this car sometimes.

I had two friends yesterday both Mechanics look at it last night and one has been in the Mustang Drag Racing scene for years and neither could figure out the source of the noise. One Suggested a shorter belt which I did do but that did nothing. He felt it was a little loose even though it is only a few months old and I bought it as part of an AC delete/Pulley kit the other mentioned the throttle body which is a possibilty. It whistles under real hard acceleration now which it didn't do in the past so maybe it is "whistling" between 1200-2000 RPM. I am gonna put the stocker on and see. I was told this is a known issue with some Throttle Bodies.

I don't think I am gonna do anything to it for a few days like swap the TB as I am just sick of working on it and seeing it even though swapping them will only take a few minutes.

ford9050
04-23-2009, 07:51 AM
I didn't even rear this whole post and I was thinking throttle body. The neck with the 90 degree tube coming off the top can do this. Does the tube swivel? It should not. get a spray bottle and spray that tube with the idle around 2k or so. If it bubbles then you know what you have to do

91WhiteGeeTee
04-23-2009, 09:00 AM
Just changed out the TB to the stock one it is still doing it. The 90 degree elbow is solid and won't swivel on either one.

I also sprayed brake cleaner around the upper and lower thinking maybe the gasket has a leak. I have taken the upper off a few times since November while reusing the gasket but it did nothing.

The one thing I find interesting is it doesn't happen till its fully warm and at operating temp which is 160 degrees.

Is the pcv still in? Sometimes they can pop out if you are messing around with wires and hoses and stuff

91WhiteGeeTee
04-23-2009, 09:25 AM
PCV is Still in. Also ran it without the belt and still makes the noise.

What is wrong with this car? It is possessed!

91WhiteGeeTee
04-24-2009, 09:08 AM
I think when I replaced the PS pump I did solve that issue squeak but after crawling under it yesterday and trying to find the sound....I found it... The Block Plate that I got with the trans wasn't the best and was kind of warped and when it heated up it expanded enough for the flywheel to make contact. I have a new block plate on the way unfortunately that meant I pulled the trans out again last night so I can actually diagnose the issue. I am getting pretty fast at pulling it now

91WhiteGeeTee
04-29-2009, 07:11 PM
My car is no longer as of 6pm today. The motor finally gave out...Atleast I know what the squeaking/squealing was as I believe my bearings are shot and the car won't run any longer.

It was a shame as I just finished her up todayand I just put the trans back in again with the new block plate which I thought was the culprit.

I am not sure what to do now... a New Stock Block and sell it, Part it, a new 331 and keep it....I will need to think on it for awhile.

I am just so frustrated. I was relieved in a way yesterday because I found out what the problem was and it happened on Jack Stands in my garage and not on a "Test Drive" which would've meant a Tow home.

I am either going to get mine rebuilt or do a 331. The problem for me is that it's going to leave me without a Mustang for the summer since the motor is out I am thinking I might get it repainted now as well, Which also means that my new interior will happen as well. Lots of money will be spent.

Yeah I know but when I do stuff I generally go overboard and over do it...It's just my style.

My wife said pretty much do what I want which I have been doing anyway...I just wish I wouldve replaced the short block in November when I did heads, cam intake etc...because I have to redo all that again. Mike, If you are not a professional mechanic, you missed your calling!
That's a lot of work!!!!
You really can't look at the money you have spent on you ride as too much.
The education you have recieved would have cost you tons at a mechanic school.
Not only are you getting hands on experience, your getting a ride your passionate about.
Hope to see your pony in person soon, good job!!!!

Thanks Andy. I am not a professional mechanic and have no interest in actually working on cars regularly but I am incredibly cheap so I had to teach myself as I refuse to pay anybody to do anything for me.

It should be running tomorrow. I just need to bolt the radiator connect hoses, power steering pump, upper intake, CAI and add oil and coolant. I would do it now but I already spent 3 hours under it today and I am tired of working on it.

This car has taken up so much of my free time...

lol

Well it has an issue now. It has a surging idle when I sit at stop lights. Didn't reveal itself until I drove it more than 5 miles. I took it for a 40 mile ride yesterday during the ride it started. I talked to Mike Post yesterday when I got back and I am gonna have him take a look at it as he seems sure whats wrong with it and honestly I know he can fix it much faster than I can it will be weeks of playing with it if I did it he has way more experience with it than I do...Heck when I did the heads cam and intake on the other motor last fall it took me 4 months to get it to run decent and countless parts I didn't need.

Ambenz

Hey Mike, how is the engine going?
You back in the saddle again?

91WhiteGeeTee
06-08-2009, 01:30 PM
Andy its very driveable currently but I have a fuel pressure issue...I have too much. My regulator I bought does nothing when trying to adjust it so a new one is on the way. I have about 40lbs of pressure and I should have more like 35lbs from what several people who know what they are talking about have told me. If I can get the fuel pressure down about 4 or 5 pounds I am thing that will clear it up. I can still drive it I just need to give it a little gas at stop lights sometimes to keep it from bogging down.

I do have a slight rear main seal leak but I am gonna just keep an eye on it. It will leave about a nickel size spot of oil under it after driving it by the next morning. Nothing horrible but I don't feel like dropping the trans again to fix it so I will wait until winter unless if it gets bad.

I have been driving it quite a bit. I have put about a 100 miles on it. I trust it but I will feel better about it once I get the fuel pressure dialed in and if that doesn't do it, I will be off to Mike Post to get him to fix it up.

Mike, do you have plans sat morning? I'd like to swing by and get the aod parts. I have a ford scanner we can check out if you think it might help find the problem with your car. I got a 2 row heavy duty radiator I can give ya if you need or want one. it's thick like a 3 core and cools better then a stock radiator. I can put the regulator in if ya want it's a piece of cake

91WhiteGeeTee
06-08-2009, 03:03 PM
I will be home late morning 11:30 or little later. I will have the regulator in by wednesday latest so thats no biggie but a heavy duty radiator might be nice. Mine is the stocker.

Yes it was dyno tuned by Bob Kurgan...

256hp and 311lbs of torque. I was hoping for more like 275+ to the tires but honestly the car is pretty quick, very street friendly, sounds good and that is really all I ever wanted anyway. It's a lot faster than when I bought it at least.

So I made the first 440 dollar purchase towards that. Next up the upholstery, carpet and door panels. My car is such a money pit. Someday it will be amazing though.

Thanks but mine isn't red. Currently Cracked White leather with black and red Trim. My new interior will be black with some red trim everything is here except the upholstery but should be here in a little over a week. My Dashboard is Red and Black so basically I am eliminating all the dingy white leather and white vinyl. I might eliminate the red all together but that will only be if I find a deal on black dash and center console. I know I can try dyeing it but I have seem mixed results so I will leave it as is for now.

If you ever want to fill in the ground effects/lettering "Mustang GT" the online options are black/white/silver but I had a local shop make me up a set in chrome. I'm not the type that'll change everything to chrome to match, i.e. door handles, gas door lids, etc..... but something on that lower skirt area looks nice imo.
The hood is awesome. What's the rise and who made it? Cervini? The bigger question is the front below the hood. Was that something that had to be changed to get the hood to work or is that a totally seperate change you made? Looks good, just curious.
Got any underhood pics? I'm in the middle of redoing my 91' and love seeing what others have done for ideas. Thanks CTS.

I actually don't like that hood at all. It came on the Mustang when I bought it. I want either to go back to a stock hood, a Cervinis Cobra R hood or LateModel Restoration has a Steel 2" Cowl Hood. The Insert on the front end is a Cobra insert but the guy before me who did it didn't do a very good job so I am actually thinking when I get the car painted I will do a new front bumper cover, Cervinis has a stalker front end but I have also considered going back to a stock front bumper cover.

I am actually thinking of getting the Mustang repainted this Summer if not this Summer it will be this Winter. The body shop my friend works at is slow and they quoted me a price that is hard to pass up. The only thing that is slowing me down is I have been sinking all my time and money into this again....

I plan on stripping and doing a few things on my own but the actual painting......i'll leave that to the pros. Could you forward his info? To be honest, it wont be til this winter or maybe even next year before i'm ready for the outside but things change daily. Thanks.
Side note: Looks like you went from a 65 amp alt to a 130? When mine went out it literally caught on fire! Took out alot of stuff. Anyway, what's all that stuff on the end of your air filter? Are all your water guards/shields still in tacted? If that's simply normal wear no biggy but if it's anything else...that doesnt look healthy. Otherwise.....sweet ride!

No I just finished washing the car and the water comes in that hoods openings. Yeah I did the alt upgrade when I built the DSS 306. Everything was apart. Pretty much everything is new on the car. The only mechanical thing I have not touched was the brakes. New Engine, Trans, Heads, cam, intake, AOD conversion to a T5, new Power Steering, etc etc etc. This was just gonna be a cheap project and I now have way more money into then I planned but all my projects are like that.

New power steering? I'm doing everything else, down to the engine block, as we speak but the power steering. I hate that Ford power steering whine with a passion! Did you go with Ford again or a different aftermarket product? And the big question is if it's aftermarket does it have that damn whine?!? lol, doesnt really bother me that much but could do without.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-02-2010, 04:51 PM
its just a replacement pump from autozone. Mine doesn't whine.

ChiTownStang
06-12-2010, 12:39 PM
Awesome. I'll check out autozone.
Back to the water on the filter............... i'm wrong ALOT about ALOT of things but if water can get in while washing does it get in while driving in the rain too? On the other side of the coin, did you remove the screen by the throttle body? It pops right out and does increase airflow a bit.
Nice job on the interior. How difficult are the seats to re-cover? My drivers side seat is beat. After 175k miles on it, go figure.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-12-2010, 09:25 PM
Well as far as the filter goes...I don't drive it in rain. It is just a toy that comes out when it is dry out. I have nothing left in the intake track that is stock and I have an 70mm Throttle Body. I am gonna go to a fenderwell CAI sometime in the near future anyhow along with the different hood when I get it painted.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-12-2010, 09:28 PM
oh and the interior was pretty easy just time consuming. The first seat took forever the others were much faster. Definitely replace the seat cushions as I am sure yours are trashed my car only had 80k and was falling apart. I got my cloth from American Muscle and the new cushions from Latemodel Resto.

ChiTownStang
06-12-2010, 09:59 PM
That'll work. Gr8 thought on the cushions. Gotta admit.........after spending almost 200k miles in that seat, it's kinda my Archie Bunker chair! I fit it just like it fits me.............perfectly! BUT, it's one damn ugly seat! I'll check that out too. Thx again!

Gotta ask about that cup holder. I typically wedge my soda can between the passenger seat and the emergency brake. Not sure if i'll go that route but over the years have heard many complaints about no cup holder. looks sturdy anyway.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-13-2010, 06:53 AM
The cup holder is stout and has held many cans of soda for me but after I converted the car from an auto to a stick honestly the soda can is in the way of shifting so if your stang is a stick I would say it is a waste of money.

Yep, she's stick. Guess i'll keep driving around with the wife...........she can hold the drinks! ;)
Got the heads, headers, lower mani, done today. Once I figure out how to upload pics i'll post a few. You've probably seen enough 5.0 pics but I got a bit crazy with the colors. Kinda unique. For example, i just picked up the upper plenum 5.0 plaque. I had it chromed and it looks insane.
Anyway, thx for chattin'. I like talking Mustang as much as the next guy but prefer talking to ones that have a similar generation. Ya knowz. Piece.

Same here and I hear ya. But i have to warn you in advance. I'm a technically 42 in calender years but in part with never having kids, I never grew up myself. I.E. i'm kind of a 25-30 year old but at times, mentally, I feel more like i'm 80. Hard to explain. Could be too much carbon build up on the brain!!! ;)
From what i've seen from the recent trips or meetings outta WCS most if not all the cars are new and our era, especially if not manicured from top to bottom might be frowned upon? I.E. any club members drive beaters? I've never met anyone from here and cant wait to do one of these drives; the invade WI sounds awesome n hope you can make it, and then i'll get a better idea of how things are. I just hope I can get my exterior rust under control before then not to embarrass the others, lol.

I do have one other question. In 91' were two different front ends? There were 1/2 models that year and maybe some of the slight changes were the front end? But mine is an all one piece front end with the Ford logo while your's looks like a two piece skirt/front end sporting a running pony. Is that an after market front skirt? Looks gr8, just curious.

Ty, I think we would all love to meet you and see the progress on your FOMOSheen!
It's cool to see passionate work and bring back great memories of our past Mustangs that we worked on too!
Sure, it's great to see beautiful shiney rides, but it's also cool to see those "roadmachines" too!!!
Hope to see ya soon!

Ambenz: Ty, I think we would all love to meet you and see the progress on your FOMOSheen!

Good times, and for the most part i'm just teasin'. Sure i'm slightly intimidated by the idea that the exterior lighting systems on some of your rides is worth more than my entire car BUT with that being said I have to ask......................what's a FOMOSheen?

Its and aftermarket Cobra Grill. You can get them for around 60 bucks at Latemodel Restoration here is a link http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/LRS-8200F

Just at a glance I have to ask. The 91' front bumper is one piece. If yours was too does it come with a template to cut the bumper? I'm not doing this but wanted to learn. Thx.
Header update shortly with a few pics.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-15-2010, 04:11 PM
I didn't install it but I am gonna guess it comes with a template. Mine was not installed perfectly by whoever did it. I am 97% sure I am gonna go back to stock bumper cover when I get it repainted.

ChiTownStang
06-15-2010, 06:12 PM
I do like the look it BUT those protruding corners would drive me nuts along with the slight roll in the bumper underneath makes it look slightly forced. Aside from that, ura 91 GT, not a 93 Cobra. I'd go back to stock. I do like that it always for additional airflow but am sure it's not enough to warrant the change in and of itself.
(Hope you dont care about constructive criticism. I'm just sharing personal observations.) Wait til you see all that's wrong with mine!!! You'll have a field day! But that's what this is all about. In the end, we'll all have better rides to show for it.
Peace.

The guy who put it on didn't do it right and it does bug me. I do want it to go back to stock and the hood too I just need to find a good rust free hood thats cheap.

ChiTownStang
06-16-2010, 01:57 PM
Doesnt this stuff add up quick; if you let it? New ur around 1k for both. Not including labor ;)
I'll give you a hand of course with the hood when the time comes no problem. But yeah, if they can be found used would rock. I have 0 sources but will keep an eye out.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-16-2010, 05:05 PM
Latemodel Resto has the hood for 214 plus 135 shipping (Truck Freight) but it is on back order until 8/2/10 and they have the front bumper cover for 164 + 15 bucks shipping ready to ships UPS tomorrow. I will get the bumper cover new but I might be able to find a new to me hood on Chitownracing.com or maybe CMC.

ChiTownStang
06-16-2010, 06:16 PM
U scored on those prices. I recall looking some time back, cervini was in the 500+ range for the hood alone. But then again it was probably something custom vs. stock oem type thing. Again, i'll keep my eye out for a hood. I'd like to get one with a 3" rise but for now the money needs to go elsewhere. For now................. lol.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-17-2010, 07:47 AM
I have also thought about the Cobra R hood from Cervinis and Latemodel has an all steel 2" rise hood pretty cheap that I have considered. When I get closer to paint I will figure it out.

ChiTownStang
06-17-2010, 02:16 PM
The 2-3" rise imo gives the car a tougher looking attitude. That's just me of course but someday that might get done too. Maybe even the 2" but also add a pseudo induction too? First I need to buy a new hood liner for mine. The fire of course ruined that too. My wife says leave it as part of the story/history of the car. All I see is a burnt up liner that needs to be changed. We'll see how this one unfolds. ;)

Ok, how about this. I want to add an electric fan but keep the existing fan too. I've come across several pull fans but i think i'd rather get a push fan. I'm sure with some effort and google i'll eventually find something but thought you might have already gone down this road? I did find one from Summit that indicates some models are switchable to either push or pull but the unit they offered for our model car only indicated pull.

I'm sure there's better things to spend the money on but i'm doing yard work today and am sweating like a pig. Made me think of trying to keep the car cooler this summer! Pathetic isnt it? Anyway, for a bill fiddy it seems like it's worth doing.

91WhiteGeeTee
06-17-2010, 04:23 PM
I run the stock fan set up. A friend of mine has tried to convince me too ditch it but I have resisted the urge.

I have thought about the steel 2" rise hood for a year...one of these days I might purchase it.

I have a friend that doesnt want me to ditch the stock setup but thinks adding a push fan where the AC condenser used to be. In theory I like it better than illinating the stock fan or having a pull fan in front of the stock fan. BUT to have a push fan sorta makes sense. But then again, i'm not having over heating issues. It just feels right. lol, if that makes sense.

I love how it looks without the luggage rack and 3rd brake light! It looks amazing and they only had it 14 days including 2 weekends and Labor day. The fixed all rust and dings realigned everything. The welded up the holes from the luggage rack and did an awesome job on the ghost flames! It is very clean and streamlined now. The owner of the shop surprised me by doing ghost flames on the trunk lid! He did it because he thought it would look good and he did it free of charge!

Thanks Andy! I do love the new paint job. As far as driving it in the Winter....that didn't happen with the old paint job either. It will spend the Winter in the back half of the garage next to the Jeep plugged into the battery tender. Well it will now never see rain or snow again while I own it. I am kind of sad that the project is basically over now. Sure it needs some little stuff still but all the Major stuff has been done...Now what am I gonna do with my time? I would rather work on my junk then drive it.
