The foxes were nice cars :023:. The only thing I have against them is the stock 4 lug wheels, though easily taken care of with aftermarket swaps.

yea 5 lugs have a lot better wheel choice options. Should have had 5 lugs and 4 wheel disc from the start of efi

It was sad, but Ford had built the 2nd and 3rd gen stangs on basically a compact car chassis. the IIs were Pintos, and the '79-93s are on the fox, which was actually both the compact and the intermediate body. Fairmont/Zephyr, '82 Granada, '83-86 LTD & Marquis (not the full size models) '82-87 Lincoln Continental, '84-93 Lincoln Mark VII, and '80-88 Thunderbird/Cougar.
Performance was not in vogue when the chassis was developed, so nothing performance-wise was designed into it, other than it beight lightweight and strong.

Epi that winter pic of your stang down right depresses me. Looks like we are the only foxes in here for now.

Fox guy here!!! A good set of sub-frame connectors goes a long way with these cars, it's a must. The 4 lug isn't so bad, wheel choices are limited, but there are quite a few nice ones out there. They are pretty strong too, alot of people running some sick fast times with stock 4 lug axles, but many upgrades are avaliable, I have the strange 33 spline set up, pretty bulletproof.

Okay, so here I am with yet another Fox body 'stang to add to the list. I purchased this guy new in 1984 and although there was little in the way of "performance" cars at the time, this little guy was one of the fastest.
I agree that the four lugs decision was an error, it doesn't have any bearing on performance, only the aesthetics (which are also important), and sub-frame connectors are a must. For those of you who have problems with the hood support bar on windy days, I made a latch device using a screen door holders and a 1/4-20 thumb screw that secures the support bar to the hood and unless the support arm anchor mounted to the body fails, the hood will go nowhere.

i just dont see how when they came out with the 5 lug SVO, why they didnt stay 5 lug from there on out? on that same note, why make a 5 lug car to begin with only to go right back to 4 lug on the others. i guess it all comes down to price and what was a necessity for the buyer at the time.
i remember how bare-bone by 1980 ghia was. i was lucky to have a/c. but at the same time it must have been nice to be able to eliminate unnecessary stuff unlike the cookie cutter optioning they do now where you are basically forced to take most of the options even in base model form. imo there is so much unnecessary stuff on new pony cars. more than what i want. even on the early sn95's you could still eliminate a lot of items off the car the buyer might deem unnecessary. with new mustangs you're fortunate just to have a spoiler delete option.
someone might not want side airbags, a/c, rear defrost, foglights and want manual seats without a seat motor if anything, just for weight reduction. but those days are done.

Would I ever do it? Probably not! But many other people have but I like the looks of the GT and never had a desire to change it other then the tail light lenses.
Incidentally I still have my original egg crate lenses. Thought about selling them.

This thread is dead and needs some excitement. How many of you pushrod and overheads cam owners have tried to install long tubes and had a nightmare of a time getting them to fit right? I have big tube headers and the left side header tube rubs on the steering shaft. Anyone have fitment nightmares? "oh yea they will fit great with no clearance issues"
