I second the notion that Black is a part time job! Sure looks awesome when it's clean but you have to work extra hard to keep it that way.

Car looks fantastic! :worship:

Thank you for the kind words. Shar the Shelby is better due to the suspension it comes with. And the best part is its a Shelby. Right now it runs 13.3 at 106 with an automatic. Its harder to keep looking good, but black is a great color to show off.
See you all next show season.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Its been a while since I updated so here its goes. I now have the GT/SC package on the Shelby. All work was done by myself and International Classic. We added a Whipple supercharger, GT/SC stripes, better brakes(gotta stop too) a great tune, headrests, Shelby carbon fiber mirror covers, carbon fiber gauges, and a Shelby bra for those long roadtrips next year. Heres some updated pictures.

Kyra, The car is great for business. Being black really helps in that area. Plus its a Shelby not a rotted out Toyota Corrolla. The one thing that amazes people is that it is driven with two kids in the back, gone to many shows, and is raced hard alot. At one point I had a Simpson baby seat in the back all the time. Now I only put it in there as needed so I dont wear the leather down. :D

ShowCarDetail
01-11-2010, 06:10 PM
Right now 380HP and 360TQ at the wheels and alot of seat time. She has run 12.1 in the quarter mile. She does average low 12's all day long in good air.

thats awesome! im hoping to run my car in the low 12's or possibly upper 11's. i have the saleen supercharger with 430hp/420tq. i also have a auto, do you think its capable of 11s? and also do you have stock gears?

I have 3.55 gears that Shelby installs at the factory. The key to a 11 second pass is going to be great traction, good air, and if needed you to peddle the car down the track. Saleen and whipples need some feathering at the starting line due to the torque down low off idle. The good thing about our SC's is that it helps 3,700lbs move quickly off the line if the traction is available. I cut a 1.74 60ft. which got me the 12.1 ET. I would recommend buying a good drag radial, I use Mickey Thompson Drag radial 2's. I recommend the tires and go to the track the first time with a full tank of gas to help traction and to help you get used to the car and how it runs on the track. I would expect 12's the first few passes and then you will start bringing the time down to the 11 second zone. Make sure the OD button and TCS button are off so you dont shock the drivetrain when the back brakes lock the rearend and hurt ET. Dont forget to lighten the car and take all of the extra stuff out of the trunk and so on. The track opens in April and I will be putting together another track day for the forum in April or May depending on weather. If you can weigh your car too to get an idea of what it should run. Heres a helpful site to give you some idea.

http://www.moddedmustangs.com/performance-calculators/

I put in 3,800lbs and 430 at the wheel and it shows 12.04 ET for you. It doesnt take a few things into account but you get the idea.

Ok. I will definately go to some track days this year. I am also considering some slicks or radials. Also where can I weigh my car? Also what's better, slicks or drag radials?

Other than the blower, his car has not been touched.

Except for a nice amount of weight reduction.

Completely stock exhaust?

i think he has rear section, but that's doesn't do much other than it sounds good.
i'm not aware of any weight reduction. unless, steve r did not tell me about it.
so, i'm not sure what you mean..... (you know something i don't?)

did you do any weight reduciton that i don't know about? if so, fess up.... :)

Grabber
01-12-2010, 04:01 PM
When he ran his time, I am almost positive steve said there was a healthy amount of weight removed from the car.

Axle backs on a blown car should be good for 10 whp or so.

OK Ill clear this up now. I gutted the interior, removed all suspension components, and hired a jockey to drive the car. Im kidding. I put on the razor wheels versus the CS66's which saved about 40lbs of unsprung weight. I then removed the detail kit in my trunk, and went to the track with a half a tank of fuel. Which saved about 100lbs and 40lbs of wheel weight. I got some really good air too. Now the fact is this wont matter come spring.

Now back to jdebs questions, Slicks are for ultimate traction but, I would buy drag radials instead of slicks because you can drive on radials just about anywhere. In the rain they are fine as long as you are above 2/32nds of an inch of wear and use common sense when driving. I use the I-94 truck scale a couple of times right before you enter Wisconsin. You can use GLD's fifty year old scale too when its working right. Its on the return road at the track on the right side. Plus we use four scales to weigh the road race cars at the shop to check for front and rear balance.

SonicGT

hired a jockey to drive the car. .

I think you should have went with the trained monkey instead, but they can be hard to control LOL.

I don't think you have aftermarket exhaust do you? Just what comes stock on the Shelby GT, which is not the same as the normal GT correct?

ShowCarDetail

I stopped by Abbott lab to pick one up but I was told they escaped.

The Shelby's come with Ford Racing muffler GTA's but those were purely for sound. They show zero HP on the dyno. The car has the Ford racing X pipe (stock cats) from Shelby and Bassani mufflers designed for the GT500. Nothing more. Both show zero HP on a SC car. Its been done on a dyno numerous times by the Shelby guys.

jdebs
01-12-2010, 05:26 PM
well if i were to get either, i would put the slicks on at a local shop before i went, the only time i would be driving with slicks is to and from the track. i do want ultimate traction, but i also want to be able to drive on the street. hmmmm, hard choice.

ShowCarDetail
01-13-2010, 07:45 AM
The problem with driving on a slick is, they wobble on the highway, you cant patch a slick if you get a puncture, and if you do go low enough air pressure you will need to screw the slicks to the rims so they dont spin on the rim. Ive seen slicks spin on a car with 280HP at the wheel. If you buy slicks then buy a good floor jack and cordless impact gun and change them at the track. Good luck.

jdebs

ok, i think ill go with drag radials. thanks for letting me know!

I've spun a street tire on a rim at 18 pounds of air in the tire and 300 rwhp. I think they had just sprayed VHT on the track before my run.

UPDATE: The Big Boost kit is in. Ford Racing claims 550HP. The car has a 3.25 inch pulley (11-12lbs+ depending on the tune). GT500 fuel pumps, intercooler with a bosch pump to circulate the liquids. The heat exchanger is a HUGE Fluidyne unit. Numbers will be in come spring. If Im not happy Ill have my super tuner (Darkhorse) tune it for more. Stay tuned.

Thanks guys. I took it out yesterday and really noticed a huge difference in available torque. I have a couple of tunes to try on the dyno before Darkhorse takes it up a notch. One tune is a weak street tune for 91 octane gas since Ill be traveling more this year with the Shelby. Ive got a show in Missouri, Kansas, and Penn. I do drive it so driveability is the biggest concern for me on the road. Some states only offer 91 octane so this tune is a must. Then I have the 550HP tune from FRPP also. Which the most aggresive Ford will allow for on the car. I was told 450 at the wheels is a safe bet according to FRPP. Then theres the Darkhorse tune which will take the car up a notch if needed? Im also looking into electric cooling fans for the heat exchanger and fuel injectors. Its going to be a fun ride. :burnout:

I drive the shelby to most details. It all depends on the weather and what I need to bring to detail the car properly. When I show up in the shelby I get alot of "Can you make paint look like that ?" my reply is "Yes I can".

UPDATE: The kit is in and Ive driven it about 500 miles so far. The gauge shows 12-13lbs. of boost and the torque that is available is amazing. I will be addressing the ugly stock balancer, tensioner, and pullies to dress up the underhood area in the future. I took some time and polished somethings under the hood to bring the BLING!!! See SCD post in my section.
