Ok I have a new Die Hard and a Die Hard Battery Tender. Anyone have these? Here's my question:

The battery configuration to get to the positive nut will require the red positive battery tender clippy to be connected at a 11:00 angle position-odd, that position MAY have the positive wire too close to the hood strut..it might touch it so I hopefully I can bend it so it would not touch anything. It would be bad to have that touch the hoos strut right?

Second the negative clippy should be grounded to the engine block. Can I attach to the nut on the strut tower? Not the brace, just the tower?

And last...the actual plastic charger itself will nee to sit on boxes....is that even safe? I can clear the boxes but it will still need to sit on a plastic storage container.

BTW I have a relatively new Optima Red top for sale $50 but you will need to charge it per Optima instructions. Not for me

Thanks

1. i don't know why an insulated wire/cable couldn't touch it unless i misunderstand your issue.

2. frame, fender, engine block are all 'guaranteed' ground, non-painted metal (large nuts and such) are also good for ground. nut on top of your strut tower is fine.

3. i don't know; put it on a metal box/concrete/stone slab and you'll be fine.

Shar, is this the tender you have?

If so, most of the tenders use those style clips to hook to the battery. I recommend hooking the tender up to the battery both positive and negative terminals. Then lay the tender in the fender between the strut tower and fender. Just lay down some towels over the fender or a fender cover. Or you could put the tender on top of your intake with a cover too. If the clips are too big to put on the posts and cables(which is possible) diconnect the posts and just hook the tender up to the battery. Lastly the tender should be sealed internally so you shouldnt have to lay it on anything to keep from damaging it or creating continuity. Personally I like the original battery tender which has quick disconnects that hook up to the terminals permanently and all you do is clip it in and the battery is charging. We use the tenders at the shop on about sixty cars and its a great charger. Eastwood sells it and its not cheap but worth every penny.
As for the optima battery take it to a local service station and let them charge it for you. Most shops wont charge a fee just to throw it on a charger. I know we dont. Hope this helps. If not give me a call.

negative terminal should be last choice on the battery taking a charge, better safe than sorry.

Hi Steve,
yes thats the tender I have. It states to put the negative cable to the engine block, not the negative on the Battery...I have no idea why because several people just do it that way.

So here is the hook up...I have the clips going horizontal and does that matter? Should I have them vertically? Steve I'd be real interested in
seeing that easy hook up pics??

I'm just not good with batteries...keep thinking I'll burn the building down. I mean holy crap the warnings on this thing including cancer causing agents!

Thanks Wolf...I have that positive cord pretty close to the hood strut. And what if that plastic positive rubber cover comes popping up..could that cause a fire? Ugh....

can't see the pics but hook up the harness. It's the lower left in the link Steve posted to the battery and then plug the charger in to the harness
