Mark I am LMAO!!! Yeah that's EXACTLY what I need.
Actually I just test drove a 2008 Escape 2WD w/20K + 100K FORD warrantee Certified used car. @ Westfield. We're checking our numbers and I'll go back Saturday to see what else is on their lot New or Certified Used. We're close to $17500 and this 08 is LOADED Leather Moon Roof automatic lights and rear view mirror...we'll see. The guys know me really well so no high pressure, they will shoot me a fair deal, just has to be aFORDable.
Um NO not selling Stang, Escape would be my daily driver. : ) So I may be riding higher Saturday. You all know I want to keep the miles off and while this is REALLY an expensive way to do it, I have to have a totally reliable car-I can't be stranded.
This one is white but it doesn't have all that black plastic on the front and sides..so it looked pretty neat. I don't love SUV's <cept HUMMER> but for a daily, this could be really enjoyable.
I'm excited...but will be penniless....calling my auto ins tomorrow for ball park figure. They are also supposed to have a high safety rating??

I thought of the snow tire thing...just the idea of trying to get them in the car to haul over and back...PLUS I'm still high mileing it. I'd love to let the Pony rest alot and save the miles on her.
So I know 4WD is a favorite BUT....anyone drive a 2WD front drive SUV??? It might just work for 3-4 inch snows. Anything over that and I think I would just call it a night and stay in a hotel across the street...
If you have personal experience with 2 wheel drive SUV's post it please. : )

My DD is my wifes hand me down, Buick Rendezvous.
FWD SUV V6 tracks really well with newer all season radials.
She use to own a Geo tracker 4X4, easy to maintain goes offroading okay but it was a 4 banger.
Either one would be a okay beater IMO.

While it won't cure the mileage issue, if you get a set of winter tires from the tire rack on a new second set of wheels, Tire Rack will ship them to you mounted and balanced (mounted and balanced at no charge even!).
Then it would just be like changing 4 flat tires twice a year...no hauling tires to be dismounted and remounted. Plus then you'd have 4 months to detail the summer wheels before putting them back on in the spring.

I'm so used to not begging for help....I know that sounds stupid. Read on....
Last year when I got my Plenium and Fuel rail covers..I needed then on in time for a weekend show. And there was a possible clearance problem with the STEEDA Strut Tower brace. So one guy offers to help on the Monday <after the show>, he lives 2 hours away and that would make me arriving at his place about 8:30 at night. I thanked him for the offer though that was very nice.
Then he bashes me for taking it to the dealer to have it put on...
I just have no room in my garage for another set of tires. There is no room to even put them on here. It's a very nice gesture believe me. I can't afford to be paying the dealer for all my service work..it kills me. But to get bashed for not taking his kind offer..perhaps he was not realizing how late it would have been..whatever.
BUT if I decide I truly cannot afford this car tomorrow....I may just have to have you drive all the way to Glen Ellyn to do this twice a year. I could reimburse for gas, tolls and pizza. : )
I know you are trying to save me some $$..I just want to try not to drive this car in bad weather..that was pretty tense for me..whew-sideways, I really don't like that. : )

Shar I had a 4x4 and I got stuck in my own driveway last winter!! My tires sucked! Good tires really do make a difference. I think a good snow tire would help you immensely. They have packages on ebay and tirerack etc. I am looking for some snow tires myself for the Mustang. Getting them switched over summer/winter is not that big of a deal.( I switched wheels even before I met Larry) It is a lot cheaper than going deep in the hole w/ another set of payments, plates, insurance. etc. Was your 03 as bad in the winter than your current stang? Wheather experts say that even in a really bad winter we get only about 30 days total or so of really heavy snow. Winter is about 120days so that means even in a terrible winter it is less than half of the total days that we get really heavy snow. I don't know if all that says anything to you but I would go w/ some new rims/snow tires before going into alot of debt. If you really want a second vehicle than don't spend alot, like $3000 or less for a goood winter beater.
